This weekend, some of the Datahunters have found their way to the design fair BLICKFANG in Zurich / Switzerland. We are very happy to present these tiny guys to a huge crowd for this three days. Tonight Sara and me where there to keep company with them and check if they have a nice view to all the other stuff like a great deal of furniture, fashion dolls and quaint jewelry :)

update: a few word about this paper-box: it was fun to make this colorfull version
of a packaging and also the folding works perfect…
but finally i don’t think it’s the right kind of packaging for the Datahunter ’cause
the style is too much like every mass-produced toy from china. It dosn’t hit the look
for an unique handcrafted toy like the Datahunter…what you think?
(yes, and i really fixed my nikon coolpix! :)

my lovely cam (coolpix990) is broken :( …so no pictues at this time, but at least
i have to post this template for a package of the DataHunters in processes. I was trying
to work with sketches and had a vage layout concept in my mind. Then i vectorized
my line drawings and do the inking afterwards with Illustrator.
Had the biggest problem to place all the necessary informations somewhere, set
points of interests, get everything together and ajust the colorrange.
I’ve printed different variations on 350g/m2 Brisrol Paper, cuted out, folded the packaging and attached the transparent window before glueing all together. Picures will folowing when i can finally grab another cam (..or maybe i should try to repair the old one:)

What u think? Anyone experience in print- and punching processes? Could use some advices…thx

Finally an update on projects! Well, just one but I’ll post more in the next few days.
Been super busy since the last update. First check out the new sweet “bling!bling!” DataHunter:

DATAHUNTER GOLD (special edition/wooden box)

This new gemmy guys are vanished with a warm gold tone and have
two jewels as eyes. For now only 5 pieces are made and every
of them has his own wooden box out of dark oak tree and lined
with red velvet. A branding for the box is in progress and soon
ready for the CNC millcut in brass…wondering if this works well :o

…it was tricky and took me a while to fix the jewels in position.
but i think it was worth the effort to get this shiny eyes, hope you like it?

DataHunter is such a lazzy&tired guy, so he really needs a sleepingbag :)

Since a while i check out different clothes for my DataHunter with my friend Sara, who has handsewed this whole collection. I think, has done a great job :) We checked out all style of materials and finally we have found the best fit: a soft and shiny jersey for his sleepingbag. All the details have consuming a lot of development time till we found the best pattern for sewing, the right band for the loop or the cellphonecord.

This kinky pink bag will help to protect your DataHunter on his daily travels, hunting from computer to computer :)
At the time we have only a odd lot of this material, but yesterday i’ve got other fluffy jersey color exsamples from germany, so i have to get more stuff! have to order tomorrow :) i think anthrazit(nearly black) and a shiny golden piece is next.

any suggestions for a name??? :)

a version of the front sticker of the Datahunters shipping box.
first i’ve drawn a rough sketch, scaned, printed the image bigger and redraw the sujet clean. Than i made in photoshop paths of every part of the scene to made some trial and error with color-settings and outlines. After this step the most time-consuming work is to layout the typography… i used to shuffle all the textlines and have hours to find the right proportions of the font…so this is only a first tryout, but if you read the sticker carefully, you have now at least a first clue what’s all about this little new guy! …so stay tuned :)

It’s time for a short update about our new friend the DataHunter: He is still scurry arround in our massivecut-lab, and we have to look good after him. Some nights he gorge oneself with all our best datas and about noon he wakes up, most the time terribly tired. Than he hangs arround the whole afternoon without doing anything: he’s just a lazy datahunter, but in good faith :)

Not only game console inspires us for new molds. There are a lot of other electronic devices which could have a more friendly surfaces.
A few weeks ago the idea for a DataHunter was born. Pepe is the father of the little hungry guy. His obsession is your daily data! Watch the pictures and guess who will pitch into your files…

welcome in a massive new year 07

moon & star magnets: some tiny xmas gifts for my grandmother&father. for my girlfriend i did sculpt a moony, snowy winter scenario in a small chest for a silverring and another for a necklace (pictures following).

i dont know how this guy sneaked into my mind, but that’s a first try to sculpt something
with super sculpey… great stuff! i really like the quality of this plasticine and the fact
you can work constructive after baken the basic proportions. my buddy is’t perfectly detailed
down to a smoth&plain surface, but i think he has a nice tail and superb beer belly :)

well, exhausting times…soon we have to move house, or should i say change the clothes :). under pressure work is often more fun&challenge for me. i have designed in since two nights our new webpage. on the cutout you see the rough template frames are set, the type and logo comes next week…so everybody is ready to move on?

…sorry for so long no posting, i’ve got some new clay and now i’m totally addicted to my modelling works and forgot to show you what’s upcomming. here are some teasers of the evil demon i’m carving (i spend my last nights on him ;). he’s only rough cutted and i try to find the final form for his mouth..evildevil.

…today finished and painted, wath u think? the skull is about 1 1/2 inches small and a nice add-on for plain surfaces. but still in progress and i think i will put this piece on a metall emblem.

today i have tidy my room and found a old toy of my childhood. this aero hawk from sega (1988) was one of my favorites…a helicopter with start platform from japan. when pulling the toothed belt it could fly huge distance with a nice buzz noise :) i thought sega does only arcade/video games and i didn’t know they have produced casual toys like this one, but it’s still a fancy thing!

still in progress, but i think the rough-cut is done…i have to carve the middle part structur more evenly to get the attention on the flow arround the power button. maybe i will lighten the arrows above a bit, they point in every direction and disturb the main flow too much.

this stencil background from the theme “movement” was my inspiration for this kind of faceplate style. i have sprayed it on canvas a few years ago for one of my portfolio’s.

early in the morning…it’s time to post here the some pic’s of my xbox 360 degree arrow style. i still have to go closer to the power button with more arrows and find a way to smooth out on the upper part…but first i have to get some sleep now :)

last night i had my first battle with adobe’s illustrator ;) well, after try to draw some xbox 360 templates by hand with pencil, ruler and splines, what in fact i havn’t a way with, i tough about to do the task with illustrator cs2. nice programm and i think it is like as usual: practice makes perfect. as the sun was rises i have finished my templates (this arches are really tricky…it has still some rough edges). maybe you have cool design ideas…? if you wanna clean templates (.pdf/.ai/.png) to scribble your own xbox 360 artworks, you can send me a message.

if you want to do your own scalable vector graphics and you havn’t (500$ in pocket for) illustrator? here is a good open-source solution for osx, win, linux: inkscape.
